Trumpeter Muneer Nasser
Muneer Nasser is a trumpeter, composer, jazz historian, and author whose life in music is closely tied to the legacy of his father, renowned bassist Jamil Nasser. His imagination was fired by hearing Dizzy Gillespie at New York's Village Gate in 1976, and he went on to study with musicians including Dave Burns, George Coleman, and Jimmy Owens while developing a voice informed by both tradition and global experience.
A Howard University alumnus, Nasser has performed at venues such as Blues Alley and the Kennedy Center and has carried his music through Europe and North Africa. He is also the author of Upright Bass: The Musical Life & Legacy of Jamil Nasser. Recordings including A Soldier's Story and Blue House Sessions reflect his interest in blues, bebop, Latin jazz, reggae, and the historical threads that connect them.
