Najee is a Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum saxophonist and flutist whose sound has helped define contemporary jazz for more than four decades. A New York native trained on soprano and tenor saxophone as well as flute, he emerged nationally with Najee's Theme and built a career that moves fluidly among jazz, R&B, funk, soul, and global music.
His collaborations span an extraordinary range of artists, including Prince, Quincy Jones, Chaka Khan, Al Jarreau, George Duke, Herbie Hancock, and Stanley Clarke. Along the way, Najee has earned Soul Train Awards, an NAACP Image Award, a Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award, and an honorary doctorate, while continuing to release new work such as Under the Moon, Over the Sky.
