Job brief

St. James Live and SJ Cafe & Cocktails are seeking personable and organized Hosts and Hostesses to create an excellent first and last impression for our guests.

This position is responsible for welcoming guests, managing reservations and seating, coordinating table flow and helping ensure the dining room operates efficiently during regular service and live events.

Responsibilities

• Greet guests warmly upon arrival
• Manage reservations, waitlists and seating assignments
• Escort guests to tables and provide menus as needed
• Monitor dining-room capacity and table availability
• Coordinate with servers and management regarding seating flow
• Answer guest questions about the venue, dining and performances
• Answer or direct phone inquiries when assigned
• Maintain an organized and welcoming host area
• Communicate wait times accurately and professionally
• Assist guests with accessibility or special seating needs
• Help maintain smooth guest traffic during high-volume events
• Support other front-of-house team members as needed

Requirements

• Previous restaurant, hospitality or customer-service experience preferred
• Warm, professional and outgoing personality
• Strong communication skills
• Excellent organizational skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
• Comfortable interacting with large numbers of guests
• Ability to remain composed during busy service periods
• Basic computer or reservation-system skills preferred
• Professional appearance and demeanor
• Availability to work evenings, weekends and holidays
